On a recent project I was trying to emulate the stylistic backgrounds of Arcane. I wanted to see if I could procedurally get a head start on the hand painting feeling of these backgrounds.
I learned a lot of substance designer recently and with the help of a Poly Doorway tutorial and some finessing I was able to create some stylized smart materials for substance painter.
The first material is a brush stroke blended material.
You can see that in Substance Painter you can adjust the color, scale of each brush stroke and randomize the position.
There is also a blend node that you can adjust to help mix the colors
On the 2nd type I went for more abstract shapes and directional blocky look.
Same exposed parameters and it's a great headstart to add some background noise and style to props and assets that need a stylized aesthetic.
